Red River Water Resources Council

The purpose of the Red River Water Resources Council (Council) was to enhance communication and cooperation between governments in the management of water and related land resources for the benefit of the citizens of the Red River basin. The Council was formed in 1982

Council membership included the states of North Dakota and Minnesota and the Province of Manitoba.  Voting board members on the Council consisted of three member directors from North Dakota representing the ND State Department of Health and the ND State Water Commission; three member directors from Minnesota representing the MN Department of Natural Resources, the MN Pollution Control Agency, and the MN Board of Water and Soil Resources; and two member directors from Manitoba representing Manitoba Water Stewardship.

Advisory, non-voting, members include: the Red River Basin Commission, the Red River Watershed Management Board, the North Dakota Red River Joint Board, the US Army Corps of Engineers, the US Natural Resources Conservation Service, the US Geological Service and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

The Council is committed to maintaining a strong interface and dialog with the Red River Basin Commission.  The communication between both entities is very important and benefits the efforts of both entities as mutual water management issues and concerns are addressed in the Red River basin.
